Pillows,
Duvets and Comforters
Why
choose feather or down pillows and comforters?
Feathers
and especially down have highly insulating properties and are extremely
comfortable and pleasant to the touch, considerably increasing your
sleeping comfort.
Down
warms the body more efficiently than synthetic polyester fibers,
and is certainly more durable. When complemented by 100% cotton
fabric, down permits the bedding to truly "breathe," easily
absorbing and shedding moisture for the ideal insulating effect.
Some
people claim that feathers cause allergic reactions. Is this true?
An
allergic reaction depends on two factors:
1)
The initial sterilization process: feathers and down are cleaned
and sterilized to remove the dirt, dust, dander and invisible skin
residues that adhere to them. The highest quality products undergo
between seven and ten cleaning procedures, which naturally results
in a higher price.
2)
Day-to-day maintenance: it is important to shake out and air feather
and down pillows and comforters, hanging them in the shade to eliminate
dust and moisture. Direct sunlight should be avoided, as it can
affect the quality of the product.
Very
few people are allergic to the bird proteins that make up the actual
feathers or down.
How
do I evaluate and select a feather or down duvet?
a)
Is the duvet filled with feathers or down? Down is much smaller,
finer and more expensive than feathers. It does not have a shaft
(central stem). Down provides true insulation, while feathers trap
and retain body heat, resulting in an uncomfortably warm bed climate.
b)
What is the percentage of down in the filling? According to U.S.
law, a duvet must contain 80% down in order to be sold as a "down
duvet." The remaining percentage may be made up of feathers,
cotton or any other material. Confort Suizo duvets contain 100%
goose down of the highest quality.
c)
Is the down natural or synthetic? For insulating effect, it is important
that the down be 100% natural. Like feathers, synthetic down traps
body heat, raising the temperature and causing excessive perspiration.
The fabric used for the pillow or comforter shell is also important;
if it is 100% cotton, it will be pleasant to the touch and permit
the down to function properly.
d)
Is the duvet filled with down or pure down? Down can be found at
the base of each feather or on the birds' breast, while pure down
comes only from the breast and is of higher quality. It is denser,
increasing its ability to absorb air and therefore regulate temperature.
Confort Suizo duvets are filled with pure down.
e)
Where does the down come from? The highest quality down comes from
mature birds in cold climates. The best is the white down from the
breast of adult geese in Hungary, Poland and France.
f)
How clean is the down? Down that is not processed properly before
use may be contaminated and can cause allergic reactions and even
unpleasant odors. Of course, the more exhaustive and thorough the
cleaning process, the more expensive the final product. Confort
Suizo pillows and duvets meet strict standards of sterility and
cleanliness.
g)
How heavy is the duvet? A duvet should not feel heavy or bulky.
The higher the quality, the lighter the duvet. A heavy duvet indicates
a higher proportion of feathers or other materials, meaning a lower
quality product. The lighter and more flexible the duvet, the greater
its capacity to retain air and maintain a comfortable bed climate.
Pillows, on the other hand, normally contain feathers in order to
provide the required bulk.
h)
What is the covering made of? The most appropriate material for
the shell of a down duvet is 100% cotton, which repels dust and
"breathes," permitting air to flow through it easily to
keep the duvet fresher and cooler. Confort Suizo's duvet shells
are made of sarcenet, a silky smooth cotton fabric that is very
comfortable and pleasant to the touch.
Confort
Suizo's pillows, duvets and comforters are made in Switzerland by
the prestigious Billerbeck company, and comply with the highest
Swiss standards of workmanship, materials and fillers.
Our
comforters are made of synthetic materials, and come in two styles.
Our duvets are filled with pure goose down. Our feather pillows
contain 70% goose feathers and 30% goose down. Both the duvets and
feather pillows contain pure, 100% natural down and/or feathers
that have been painstakingly cleaned and hygienically sterilized
for household use. The pillows come in two sizes: standard (50 x
70 cm) and king (60 x 90 cm). Comforters and duvets are available
in twin/full (160 x 200 cm) and queen/king (240 x 240 cm) sizes.
