What is a good mattress?

A good mattress is one that provides consistent support to the body, adjusting itself to the natural shape of the spine. When used with a slat base, a mattress must be flexible enough to adjust to the different positions permitted by the base, and also firm enough to provide the necessary support, in accordance with the individual's body weight.

In order to meet these requirements, the composition and combination of materials used in the manufacture of mattresses has evolved over decades, primarily in Switzerland. Modern mattresses combine a variety of natural materials such as silk, camel hair, sheep's wool and cotton with Suplex, Micro-Tec, viscoelastic foam, and others.

Our mattresses include a wide variety of ventilation channels to remove moisture. They weigh much less than traditional innerspring mattresses, making maintenance easier. The broad range of products permits each client to find a mattress ideally suited to his or her needs.

Because the traditional innerspring mattresses commonly sold today have a metal framework that makes them inflexible, they are not suited or recommended for use with slat bases.

The slat base is the first step in meeting the client's needs, while selection of an appropriate mattress "fine tunes" the sleep system to the individual user.

A very soft mattress with too much "give" deforms the spine, causing back pain

A very hard mattress that leaves enough space to slide a hand under the lordosis also deforms the spine, causing back pain
