The ideal mattress

Sleep specialists have studied it, and we all know it from experience; we change position frequently during the night. As a result, a high-quality mattress must meet certain requirements.

A good mattress copies the body's shape, supporting cavities and flexibly following the body's contours.
First requirement: Full resting comfort
Second requirement: Adequate heat retention.
Third requirement: Moisture regulation

Full resting comfort

The mattress must provide comfortable support to the entire body. When the position is changed, the mattress must flexibly adjust to the new body contours. This is the only way to provide support to the cavities of the spine and/or side during a change in position.
Freedom of movement is another requirement for full resting comfort, and of course all movements should be absorbed noiselessly.

Adequate heat retention

A cool temperature of ~ 18°C (= 64°F) is generally considered beneficial to the quality of sleep. The body adjusts during sleep by gradually reducing its temperature in approximately half a degree Celsius.
In order to guard against colds and rheumatic illness, bedding with insulating properties is needed to provide adequate heat retention.

Moisture regulation

Even while sleeping, our bodies emit moisture through perspiration. We give off some 60 grams of water per hour; that is 480 grams in eight hours, nearly half a liter! If the bed and bedding are not able to absorb this moisture, sleeping comfort is clearly affected.
